about

This record is a musical translation of the 43rd verse from Lao Tzu's ancient Chinese Tao Te Ching.

"The softest things of the world, override the hardest things of the world.
That which has no substance, enters into that which has no openings.
From this, I know the benefit of unattached acions, the teaching without words.
The benefits of actions without attachment, are rarely matched in the world."

Each line of text received percussion sounds for each word and a sound sculpture, which was then sampled from to make a beat which was then stretched so that strings could join.

I hope that you are able to better understand the text through sound, and that balance will be easily achieved by you and those around.

Album completed over the course of 2017 on Blaine, Baylis, Hubbard, and 17th Street in Detroit, MI
